About Katya Halligan MS, LMFT

Katya Halligan, Licensed Marriage and Family therapist offering sex, intimacy and couples therapy.

About Me

I am a Seattle-based sex, intimacy, and couples therapist. I offer online couples and sex therapy for couples wishing to create and support emotional connection, intimacy, and partnership in their relationship.

When I became pregnant with my first child, I felt overwhelmed thinking of how a healthy, meaningful life and an intimate, pleasure-filled relationship could be possible while caring for a newborn. I saw friends struggle as they transitioned to becoming new parents. They were exhausted, fighting with their partners, and some even broke up.

Eventually, I started working with a therapist. In therapy, I felt supported, safe to explore my feelings, and really seen. I learned how to allow space for my emotions, take better care of myself, and build confidence as a parent and a partner.

The deeper I dove into my own work as a spouse and a mother, the more keenly aware I became of how little support there was for couples - especially around parenting as a cohesive team. This sparked my interest in pursuing a career in psychotherapy, specifically in helping couples grow stronger in the face of challenges.

My passion for sex therapy developed after seeing how so many of my clients did not understand the basics of human sexuality or even the mechanics of their own bodies. I witnessed immense shame and watched in frustration as my couples struggled to communicate with each other about sex. They longed for pleasure and connection but were at a loss as to how to correct years of misinformation, bad habits, and unhelpful patterns.

As your therapist, I aim to help you and your partner recapture joy, enhance closeness, and experience the reward of a deeply fulfilling relationship.

Let’s Work Together

Starting therapy is a big deal. I know the mere thought of trying to find help seems overwhelming. Plenty of people put off seeking treatment or ignore problems because they’re easier to brush off as not urgent. However, this often allows the problem to grow.

Beginning therapy may help you cope with challenges in healthier and more productive ways. It can also be a relief to talk to someone who doesn’t have a stake in the outcome of your life - other than that you achieve your goals and be happy.
